Supporting Children and Adults
with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Since 1957
Join our mission of hope, growth, and change!

The Arc of Buncombe County is dedicated to serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Buncombe County and its surrounding areas. Our organization is deeply committed to the well-being of individuals in Western North Carolina, working tirelessly to advocate for their rights and ensure that they receive equal treatment under the law.
Our Board Members of The Arc of Buncombe County are deeply committed to our mission of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As our strongest advocates, they play a crucial role in advancing awareness of our programs and initiatives throughout the community. Their dedication ensures that our vision of inclusion, support, and empowerment remains clear and actionable, guiding our efforts to create lasting, positive impact for those we serve. Through their leadership and advocacy, the Board helps us uphold the highest standards of service and community engagement.
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Board Chair, Oscar Wong. All of us at The Arc of Buncombe County extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Highland Brewing community.
Oscar’s legacy is one of generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment. For more than 25 years, he dedicated his time and heart to The Arc, championing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with compassion, vision, and humor. His presence lit up every room, and his ability to make each person feel seen and valued left a lasting impact.
Oscar was a pillar of strength and kindness in every community he touched. We are honored to have had his guidance and will carry forward his spirit in our mission.
He will be deeply missed. Memorials can be made by visiting our Memorial Page.
